What makes a site popular? That has been the one question on my mind for so long. What has made Newgrounds the most popular flash site in the world? What makes youtube so great and widely-known? What has made Myspace the largest blog site in time? What the hell #Chan? These questions have been bothering me for so long. Then I realized, the answer, so simple. It's been in my face for so long, I've just been too ignorant to realize this.

Originality.

That's the secret. You need to be original to be known.
Newgrounds- Before Newgrounds, was there really a true source for games and toons made for and by fans all around the net? No? Didn't think so.
YouTube-Where else on the net, before the creation of youtube, did you find your source for useless information, and video bloggers?
MySpace-Where else on earth did you find so many emos to laugh at before the rise of MySpace? No where? Yeah, thought so.
#Chan-Where else did you find your daily dose of pedophilia?

I could go on forever with these huge sites now on the net.

Just about everything that has had some importance on the Internet in the past, has a huge site on it.

Originality. That is something most sites cannot have nowadays. If you were to go watch a short animations would you rather choose Newgrounds or just another site that has spawned in the middle of the jungle which is the Internet? It all doesn't seem fair to webmasters like I. But we all need to go through with it.

The reason I have created this topic is to ask one question. Why would you go to my site? Sure, you guys are friends, so you'd go by default. But, look at it in the point of view who doesn't know me. Why on earth would you visit my site? If it were to go to the forums, wouldn't you rather choose to go to a wider known community. Where you are sure to get answers to your topics. What about to go see some... oh, wait, there is no portal or anything on my site, moving on.

So, once again why would you... no, let's make a better question out of it, what would make you want to go see my site?

I have come to this sad realization that I really have no plans, no ideas, for my site.

Story portal? What? I've thought long enough to see that unless my site gets any hint of originality to it, it will not go anywhere.

I'm glad you actually noticed this. Crispy Forums is also a small community which is in need for a lot of members. I'll answer your question in a good manner. This will be long but it is worth it since I am always the one with the ideas.

You see to make a site look popular you got to make it look cool. If you want originality in your site you got to make it have something that most sites don't have.

-A nice community of people that are nice either way (unlike Newgrounds). Me personally, I like Newgrounds because well it is big! If you have a site that is big, maybe if you put some Flash movies, and some games in there. More people will come to the site.

-You the Admin need to put in what's best for the site. If you have a awesome idea like "us MOD's will meet in real life at Chicago, Illinois." It will mean it will give the user a benefit of a doubt that he/she will come, and post some comments of how awesome it was. How... It will mean your site has a lot of money (people love money) which you can advertise your stuff like T-shirts, pants etc.

I have come to the conclusion that you will have to work a lot if you want to be famous like Newgrounds, and Youtube. So, have I, talked about "how would you make a site popular?" Plenty of times, yet every time I talk about it I bring out an interesting point. As for you, try hard. Newgrounds was never a big site in the 90's and it took them years to get it big. That's how much effort you need to bring if you want your site/forum to be a big community.

I agree, but, Newgrounds was the first. The first flash site on the internet. It was bound to become popular eventually.

It's just hard to think of new things for a site, when so much has already been done, you know.

maybe this could help: even if the website isnt original, it could house something that IS original! a somewhat selfish thought but my mega manx9 thign could be one example. and if crispy gets popular enough on newgrounds we could maybe attract more people AND if we get any spammers we could just remove them just like we did last time but actually delete their accounts...
